Bouncing Back When Life Gets You Down

Life is full of ups and downs, but sometimes you get way, way down.  Whether it's a general frustration with the direction your life is headed, a toxic relationship, or even a traumatic event like a serious illness or the death of a close friend or family member, there are times when it's harder than others to get back up and keep living.  

During these times, it can be really difficult to keep going.  Sometimes we can't find the inner strength to overcome the obstacles in our lives. Big or small, these conflicts have a huge impact on our lives.  If you are struggling to bounce back, take heart: there is hope for you, and you can get past this negativity.  

I know what you're feeling.  You're looking everywhere for relief, and emotions like grief, rage, and despair are preventing you from finding it.  But the good news is that the motivation to fight your way back up is already inside you.  You already possess everything you need to triumph over these obstacles.  

The first thing you need to know is that you are not alone.  No matter how intense your feelings are, no matter how hopeless your situation may seem, you are not the only person who has gone through this.  Depression affects more than 16 million American adults, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.  Every one of us has experienced hard times, and it's a challenge for all of us, no matter the circumstances.  Whether you have been diagnosed with clinical depression or not, please know that there is nothing wrong with you, that the emotions you're experiencing are normal, and there is something you can do about it. 

You may never go back to the way you were before - these kinds of experiences change you, and there's a good chance that you will find a new normal when you come out on the other side of this.  But you will feel good again.  You will know what it is like to smile, to laugh, to find joy in the company of yourself and others.  It won't be easy, but you have what it takes to climb this mountain.  


Always remember that you are worth fighting for.  Even though you may not feel like it now, you are a special person who brings a unique flavor to the world, and you add value to the lives of the people around you.  Look deep inside yourself, and cherish the person you find there.  Spend time nurturing that beautiful soul, and you'll find yourself feeling better every day. 

It's okay to feel hopeless, afraid, or lost. You can overcome these emotions.  Be gentle with yourself, but remember that you are your own champion!  You have what it takes - and you can succeed. I've been where you are before, and I found the strength to defeat my demons.  I have been so lonely, so lost, and so heartbroken.  But I am grateful for this time in my life, because it taught me that I have the strength to move past any obstacle.  And if I can do it, you can too.  I believe in you.  I am in your corner, so get in here with me and fight your heart out.  

Underneath all of this pain and struggle, you are vibrant and strong.   You have the power to paint your life with a new brush, to discover a beauty in yourself that you never knew existed. Ready or not, your time is now.  Don't waste it.
